Industrial Intelligence Audit:

Conduct a review of design agencies by identifying your favourite branding projects and discovering as much as you can about who was responsible and how the projects were conducted. Pay particular attention to details regarding design approaches or methods.

  1. Mozilla by Johnson Banks
    1. About the design:
      1. I had no idea they were not-for-profit
      2. ‘as an open source software company, they should also rebrand ‘in the open’.’
      3. Decisions taken during the design process are very well written about
      4. It’s more like a case study than just another project in a portfolio – in a good way
      5. There is even a blog that is accessible to know more about the project
    2. People and organisations involved:
      1. Agency – Johnson Banks
      2. Tim Murray – Mozilla Creative Director
      3. Michael Johnson – Founder of Johnson Banks

      5. Partner form Typeface – Peter Bilak (knowledgeable person)
      6. Concepts and Guidance at Typeface – Anton Koovit and FontSmith
      7. People – whose opinions, shared in the comments, are considered while making decisions. Some comments are answered by Tim Murray
      8. Digital Consultants – Sennek
      9. Account Director – Katherine Heaton
      10. Senior Designer – Daniel Keefe
      11. Designer – Jonathan Lennon
      12. Designer – George Stockley
      13. Designer – Jessica Mumby-Price
      14. Finance Director – Lizzie Schoon
    3. About the brand:
      1. ‘We define, then design, brands that make a difference.’ ‘We work with people who want to do big things: tackle hunger; fight for an open internet; address child poverty; raise billions for innovation and education; bring culture and enlightenment to the world; create products that rewrite the rules of their sector; change minds and change lives. Together with our clients, we explore fundamental questions – what they do, how they do it, who do they do it for, and why. Then we find answers they can use. We don’t just help brands change. We help them change the world.’ – working with brands that make a difference is very much something that aligns with what I want to do.
  2. The Royal Parks by Baxter and Bailey
    1. About the design;
      1. I love the logo, it seems totally appropriate, is easy to understand and very easily resembles the crown illustration
      2. I love the handmade look and feel of the textures and illustrations, very much my style
      3. Also like the placement of the mockups and merch, something I can take inspiration from for my portfolio
      4. I like the way they have talked about the process while keeping the text limited
    2. About the brand
      1. Interested in positive change – like me

  3. A & O Shearman by Landor
    1. About the design:
      1. Bringing the fun and exciting to something that can be seen as too boring
      2. Visuals are thoughtfully curated and ask viewers to deeply engage with the design, to question it, and then understand what the brand does
      3. I was introduced to this design during our studio visit to Landor and it was a great example of when a brief doesn’t seem inherently interesting but there is always something that can be done with it to make it fun and engaging

    3. People
